Intro
About me
Hello, my name is Olena. I am Ukraine-based screenwriter, novelist, English teacher, and translator with over 15 years of experience in storytelling, language education, and creative writing.
I specialize in writing compelling, emotionally rich screenplays across genres like drama, fantasy, sci-fi, and animation.
I offer screenwriting services for production companies, independent filmmakers and aspiring writers.
Throughout my career, I’ve:
● Written six original spec feature screenplays● Received multiple international awards for my feature spec screenplay Wish Granting Factory● Authored over 200 articles on screenwriting craft● Helped hundreds of students master English through film-based learning, which led to the creation of my online English courses for writers● Worked as Head of Jury for Short Screenplays at the Chicago Script Awards● Consulted aspiring writers from around the world—especially non-native English speakers
Portfolio
My portfolio consists of six spec feature screenplays ready for production.
I create unique characters because I’ve read countless novels and watched countless movies — and I know the audience craves something fresh. We don’t need another Cinderella or the same old story retold.
My writer’s voice is shaped by my life experience: the clarity of a teacher, the rhythm of a poet, the discipline of a dancer, and the spirit of a war survivor. I blend emotional storytelling with structure and logic, often exploring themes of personal transformation, resilience, and the quiet strength people discover in the face of crisis.
I’m actively looking for producers to partner with—professionals who see potential in meaningful stories and want to help bring them from script to screen.
Career path & personal qualities
My transformation journey
I began my career about 17 years ago as a technical translator and English teacher, deeply passionate about language, literature, and helping others express themselves. In 2014, I founded the Olena Chepurna Language School, where I introduced a unique method of teaching English through movies, TV series, subtitles, and screenplays. This approach helped hundreds of students not only learn English but think in it—by absorbing the rhythm, tone, and structure of real dialogue. My passion for storytelling eventually led me to enroll in a screenwriting school, driven by ideas for an educational sitcom and an animated family film. Inspired by my professor and the creative process, I made the pivotal decision to pursue screenwriting professionally—merging my love of language, education, and cinema into one creative path.
What kind of person am I?People like to work with people, so let share not just my skills, but my personal qualities. My time as a technical interpreter set the bar high — for professionalism, precision, and pressure-handling. Since then, I’ve continued to build systems around everything I do. I’m not just a creative — I’m an algorithm person. I like order. I like plans. I love small, consistent steps that lead to big, meaningful results.I’m that person who thrives on lists — just like in “I Don’t Know How She Does It”. I don’t just dream — I plan, I act, and I make things happen. That mindset helped me survive war, endure clinical depression, and navigate personal storms. Those experiences didn’t break me — they shaped me.Through it all, I remain a wife, a mother, an artist, and a lifelong learner. When I have free time I play piano, write poetry and songs, cook with my daughter and find deep joy in ballet and opera — not just as art forms, but as philosophies of life.People often ask how one person can do so many things. My answer is simple: I just do what brings me joy.
